Alvarium Roasting Company sits just off John Downey Drive in New Britain as a quietly confident spot where serious coffee drinkers and casual sippers converge. More than a typical coffee shop, Alvarium roasts its own beans on site, which shows in the smooth, nuanced flavors that come through in every cup. Whether you're after a straightforward iced latte or something more adventurous like their mocha, peanut butter, and banana cold foam drink named “The Elvis,” you’ll find the offerings both thoughtful and approachable.

The interior feels deliberately unhurried — a welcoming mix of cozy seating and open space, with a small expansion that allows for easy socializing without crowding. On warmer days, the option to sit outdoors is inviting, making it a pleasant spot to linger with a book or your laptop. Their dog-friendly policy also means locals often bring their four-legged friends along, lending a neighborhood vibe to the space.

Regulars seem to appreciate the balance here between craft and comfort. The baristas aren’t just staff; they’re knowledgeable guides on third-wave coffee culture, happy to chat through the different blends or the house-made syrups like cinnamon spice or bourbon vanilla bean. This attention to detail extends to their rotating specials, which range from spicy chai blends to more unusual flavor twists, adding variety without overwhelming the core coffee experience.

This café works well for early mornings when you want a dependable espresso or flat white to start the day, as well as midday breaks featuring unique cold brews to refresh and recharge. The casual, laid-back ambiance fits locals looking for a low-key spot to catch up with friends or get some solo work done. Sweet treats like pumpkin walnut muffins or chocolate chip cookies with sea salt provide just enough indulgence without overshadowing the beverages.

Alvarium’s approach feels rooted in respect for quality and community. It’s not flashy, but the combination of expertly roasted beans, thoughtful drink preparation, and relaxed seating makes it a satisfying stop for New Britain residents who value a well-made cup in a congenial setting.

This hidden gem is the perfect cozy spot to grab a nice iced chai or dark roast. I highly recommend trying "The Elvis". Perfect blend of mocha, peanut butter and banana cold foam!

Bourbon vanilla bean hot coffee and a maple syrup coffee with a pumpkin walnut muffin . Each coffee definitely has their own unique flavor notes along with their house made syrups. Couldn’t resist a chocolate chip cookie with sea salt . The ambiance is very chill and aid back with access to the bar (when open) AND is dog friendly I got a blend of two coffees with a flavor syrup, so the flavors were a bit everywhere on my palate. Next time I will try no flavor syrups to get the full coffee flavor

I love this coffee shop!! It’s such a cute and chill spot to start my day off at, PLUS they’re dog friendly! The workers and service are both impeccable too! I had a brief conversation with the barista, Serena or Cierra, and she seemed really knowledgeable and passionate about third wave coffee. The coffee, staff, and ambiance definitely make this a place I love going to!

Absolutely love Alvarium's coffee and the fact that they roast their own beans too. I usually get their iced latte's with no flavoring, but have had friends who get their fun drinks and really enjoy them. It's a great spot to grab a coffee and sit outside for a little in the spring/summer time. Their staff is friendly and love that they expanded their inside a little bit for some seating too.

INCREDIBLE caliber coffee! Jacob, the roaster, is a master at his craft AND making specialty drinks throughout the year. All syrups are made in-house with the best ingredients (no high fructose corn syrup garbage here), he is ethical with his coffee bean outsourcing selections, and roasts each bean to literal perfection. Finding a cup of coffee this smooth is hard to rival. Don't believe me? Go try for it yourself!

The entrance is right at the front of the brewery. Upon entry we were greeted by two smiling staff members who eagerly took our order. I ordered a Cortado and a cup of the black along with two bags of the house blend beans. We were promptly asked if we would like the beans ground and what size coarse. The Cortado was heavenly and I'm excited to get home and brew up the beans! Cannot wait to go back!

Really love this place. Dog friendly. Have a stamp card reward system. The coffee is DELICIOUS. My favorite orders are large mocha latte with light ice and an extra double shot. Or an iced brown sugar latte (brown sugar granules not the syrup) with light ice and an extra double shot. Both are good warm instead of iced too. The bakery items are also delicious (the croissants, chocolate chip cookie, pumpkin bread) I go to this place every Saturday as a reward for a long work week. I always look forward to it as part of my weekend. Soooo yummy.
